How to Use Epic BDE's Marketing Preference Fields With Fuse

Learn how specific fields within the Epic BDE integration can help control communication sends from Fuse.

With Fuse's Epic BDE integration, the system does not automatically prevent communication sends based on marketing preference values.

Note: This functionality only applies to clients with an Epic BDE integration. This does not apply to the Epic File Upload integration.

Those fields are synced into Fuse and there are ways to manually include or exclude accounts from campaigns via audience segmentation rules based on the marketing preference fields. There are three relevant Marketing Preference fields that sync into Fuse.

"Marketing Delivery Code"

In Epic, every Contact has a "Marketing Delivery Code" field. This is a dropdown selector within Epic, where clients can choose one of four possible options: Phone, Email, Fax, or Mail. This info syncs to the MarketingDeliveryCode field in Fuse, with a corresponding value of either P, E, F, or M.

"Do Not Market"

Every Contact in Epic also has a "Do Not Market" field, which is just a check box. Checking this box causes the "Marketing Delivery Code" dropdown to become unavailable in the Epic UI. Also, when checked, Epic sends Fuse a MarketingDeliveryCode value of D.

"Marketing Opt-ins"

Each Account in Epic has a series of checkboxes under the heading "Marketing Opt-ins." Each checkbox represents a type of communication such as Phone or Email.

In Fuse, rather than having separate fields for each type of communication, we sync this data into a single field called "MarketingOptIns," which can contain multiple values at once, corresponding to each communication type that has been checked.

Example: if a Customer record in Epic has both "Mail" and "Email" boxes checked for "Marketing Opt-Ins," then in Fuse the "MarketingOptIns" field will contain 2 values: Mail and Email

How Do I Include or Exclude Accounts From Fuse Campaigns Using Marketing Preferences Data?

  1. Determine which piece of data you want to use as the reason to include or exclude Accounts from a campaign. You can segment based on any of these fields in Epic:
    1. Marketing Delivery Code
    2. Do Not Market
    3. Marketing Opt-ins
  2. When segmenting the audience for a campaign, add rules to either include or exclude accounts from the campaign based on one or more of the fields above.
    • If you want to exclude everyone that has "Do Not Market" checked in Epic, simply add the segment rule: "Account > Epic > MarketingDeliveryCode is not D"
    • If you only want to include people who have explicitly opted-in for email marketing, use the segment rule: "Account > Epic > MarketingOptIns contains Email"
